Hoy os presento una película no demasiado conocida, aunque no por ello menos digna de ver.
Fighter in the wind, producción conjunta entre Corea del sur y Japón y dirigida por Yun-ho Yang fue realizada en 2004 como homenaje póstumo a la figura del maestro Masutatsu Oyama (1923- 1994) , fundador del estilo de karate Kyokushinkai.
La película entra dentro de la categoría de biopic, aunque cabe decir que está basada en el comic de Hak-ki Bang inspirado en la vida de Oyama, lo cual lleva a que los hechos de la película puedan estar aún más distorsionados respecto a la realidad.
La película nos cuenta la historia de Choi Bae-dal, un joven coreano que pone sus ilusiones en convertirse en aviador para el ejército japonés durante la segunda guerra mundial. Sin embargo, no lo consigue y está a punto de ser ejecutado al rebelarse.
Al acabar la guerra, Bae-dal trata de vivir lo mejor que puede con sus camaradas coreanos también emigrados a Japón durante el conflicto. Allí se verá asaltado por la Yakuza japonesa y humillado públicamente, hasta que aparece en escena Beom-su un antiguo amigo de Bae-dal que le inición en las técnicas del Tae Kyon, (un antiguo arte marcial coreano donde priman las técnicas de pierna).
Tras la humillación sufrida, Bae-dal le pide a su amigo que le enseñe artes marciales, pero Beom-su responde entregándole una copia del libro de los cinco anillos, un famoso texto escrito por el que es considerado el mejor samurai de la historia: Miyamoto Musashi.
Tras una cadena de acontecimientos personales, Bae-dal decide hacer lo que en su día hiciera Musashi: irse a la montaña para entrenar su cuerpo y su mente y perfeccionar su técnica.
Tras un durísimo entrenamiento, (el cual se atribuye realmente a Oyama), Bae-dal deja la montaña y comienza a luchar con los maestros de las escuelas japonesas haciéndose famoso con su nuevo nombre Masutatsu Oyama.
Éste sería a grandes rasgos el argumento de Fighter in the wind, cuyo título original es Baramui Fighter.
La película es bastante entretenida, y aunque su argumento pueda parecer a simple vista el típico de “tipo pierde, tipo se entrena, tipo gana”, hay que tener en cuenta que se está tratando de contar la historia de un personaje real.
La coreografía de los combates es bastante buena y huye de los excesivos artificios a los que estamos acostumbrados últimamente.
Como detalle curioso decir que la escena final, en la que el protagonista trata de enfrentarse a un toro con las manos desnudas, hace referencia a algo que hizo famoso al auténtico Oyama, de quien se dice que llegó a matar a dos de éstos animales de un solo golpe.
Una película muy recomendable especialmente para los amantes de las artes marciales.
