Hace unas semanas ―esta entrada debería haber sido publicada entonces― pude ver la película de terror sádico The Crazies (Breck Eisner, 2010), que es un remake de la original, de 1973, de George Romero (La noche de los muertos vivientes), pero estoy seguro que no estará decepcionado. De principio a fin consigue mantener el interés sin que haya esos típicos momentos, muy habituales en otros filmes del género, en los que piensas “¿por qué c*** han hecho eso?.”
Un típico pueblo del Medio Este americano ve cómo sus ciudadanos se convierten en maníacos homicidas por culpa de una extraña toxina creada por el gobierno de los Estados Unidos que, a causa de un accidente aéreo, es liberada en el agua que llega a los habitantes del lugar. No es una premisa especialmente original pero la historia sigue siendo interesante, no tiene ningún agujero y como he dicho antes, tampoco momentos de pura estupidez. Breck Eisner, el director, no consigue asombrarnos con su trabajo pero logra que no perdamos el interés en ningún momento. No hay actuaciones de Oscar pero todas resultan convincentes y ningún personaje parece forzado.
El terror sádico es posiblemente uno de los géneros de cine menos queridos, posiblemente porque no da demasiado de sí. Creo que es mi deber recomendar las otras dos películas del estilo que realmente valen la pena, Los renegados del Diablo (Rob Zombie, 2005) y Las colinas tienen ojos (Alexandre Aja, 2006). La primera es la segunda parte de La casa de los 1000 cadáveres (2003), también de Zombie, y nos muestra la huida de una familia de asesinos en serie que son intentados capturar en su casa y el rastro de muerte y destrucción que dejan a su paso; tiene alguna escena de sadismo más que prescindible pero, en general, es recomendable. Las colinas tienen ojos es un remake de un trabajo homónimo de Wes Craven y como The Crazies, no tiene nada nuevo pero está bien desarrollada de principio a fin.
